Senior School Vocational Dance Course
From Year 10 the Vocational Dance Course further expands the opportunities for AB girls. Dancers at this level dance for approximately 10 to 12 hours a week, depending on their academic and sport options. In addition to the dance styles studied to date classes are taken in contemporary dance and all are introduced to the Edexcel BTEC qualifications. These carry GCSE and A Level equivalents (they are set by the same board) and can provide valuable UCAS points that may be needed for university entry.
Many dance students at this level choose not to do sport, and where possible are able to fit in additional dance classes at no extra cost. Students who want to participate fully in sport are able to do this throughout their time in the senior school if they wish. In fact a number of students have used their dance skills as a part of GCSE and A Level PE. All girls working at this level are encouraged to take the Royal Academy of Dance and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Professional Examinations.
Most continue in the performing arts after leaving the sixth form and 2013 offers included – two places at The Royal Academy of Dance, a full scholarship at Bird College London and places at Laine Theatre Arts, Millennium Performing Arts, Oxford School of Drama, Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre and London Studio Centre. Students offered places on these dance and performing arts courses were also offered places to study subjects as diverse as music and marine biology at university.
Places on the Pre-Vocational and Vocational Courses at all levels is by assessment or audition.
