Early Years Foundation Stage (Kindergarten and Reception)

The Early Years Foundation Stage represents an important stage in a child’s development. We provide a supportive and fun environment which allows pupils to learn and grow, becoming increasingly independent. Pupils benefit from small class sizes and high staff to pupil ratios. Our highly-qualified and experienced practitioners work closely in partnership with parents, to ensure the happiness and well-being of each child.

At Abbots Bromley Prep School, pupils may join Kindergarten during the term of their third birthday, if ready, and we may recommend that attendance is initially part-time until your child is ready for full-time education in Kindergarten. Pupils will be in full-time education in the Reception class from the beginning of the academic year in which they are five.

Based on the Early Years Framework, our curriculum is centred on structured play and learning through discovery. The outdoors is central to our philosophy and we take every opportunity to take learning outside the classroom. The rural environment at Abbots Bromley School is an exciting place for young children, and pupils like nothing more than donning wellies and waterproofs, exploring the extensive grounds and woodland of our 52 acre site.

We have an individualised approach to learning and our topic-based planning meets individual needs and interests. Pupils learn to read and write when they are ready – academic standards are high and they achieve well. Pupils learn French, taught by a friendly rabbit called Jojo.

Pupils in the Foundation Stage are assigned to a House on joining the school and take a full part in Abbots Bromley Prep School events, themed days and performances. The highlight of the Michaelmas term is the Pre-Prep Nativity.

Pupils benefit from the enhanced facilities of Abbots Bromley School with PE, Swimming and Music all taught by specialist staff.
